Meet Aavery, Blugene's New Virus Friend!

By Jennifer Tsang

Updated March 6, 2020.

After months of input and polling, Blugene's new virus friend finally has a name! We thank you for your participation in suggesting names and voting in our poll.

Now, we'd like you to meet.....

Welcome to Addgene, Aavery!

Original post:

In December, we introduced you to Blugene’s new virus friend (they/them/theirs). But, they didn’t have a name. Last month, we collected suggestions for names and we’ve recently chosen four names as finalists. Now, we’re asking you to help us make the decision between some meaningful names….

Watch the video to find out the final four! (Note: For cases where the same name was submitted by more than one person, we selected the finalist based on the first time of submission.)

We love the way the names Aavery, Addy, and Cappy play on viral vector terms. And, the name Kendall has a special place in our hearts: our first two offices were located in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.

We hope you’ll give us your input by filling out this form here linked below. We’ll keep the poll open until February 28 5PM EST and we’re excited to see your thoughts. Our mascot Blugene can’t wait either.

We would like to give a shoutout to BosLab, a community lab in Cambridge, MA, for hosting our agar art fun!
