Safe Port in a Storm...How Addgene is Weathering the Pandemic

Posted by Joanne Kamens on Sep 17, 2020 9:15:00 AM

These are stormy times. It feels like we’re being buffeted by wind and waves and sometimes wonder if we can take another blow. Back in March, we never expected to be in this here and now. Our closure was earlier than most companies. Since the start of this crisis, we’ve been very responsive to the mood of the Addgenies — and they were very anxious at this point. Here's the message I shared with the Addgenies on March 11, 2020 after rumors spread in our building that someone from a different company had tested positive for COVID-19 (it turned out to be an unfounded rumor).

Stepping into a Virtual Internship: My Experience at Addgene

Posted by Brandon Solis on Aug 13, 2020 9:21:48 AM

Hola! Que tal? My name is Brandon Solis, and I am a rising senior studying Sociology and Dance at Skidmore College. I was also Addgene’s Marketing Intern this summer! With the help of Project Onramp, I was able to gain access to an internship on the journey to full-time employment. I have always been interested in the ways that I could change the world around me. My strong interest in the intersections of media, art, and society made me intrigued by the marketing internship at Addgene. Although my interests are very clear, I had no idea how to translate them into real world careers. I figured this internship would be a perfect way of exploring my different interests but also a way of challenging what I am used to.

Addgene’s Newest Way to Speed Your Research: The Cloning Grade DNA Service

Posted by Paolo Colombi on Jul 28, 2020 9:15:00 AM

What if after ordering a plasmid you didn't have to grow the bacteria and prep the plasmid before you begin your cloning experiment? What if after receiving the plasmid from Addgene you could directly start your digest, PCR, or transformation?

Great news. A subset of our collection has been prepared as part of our new cloning grade DNA service and is ready to use out of the box.

We estimate that providing cloning grade DNA could save scientists up to three days of work. We’ve taken care of all the steps going from streaking to a single colony to DNA extraction and quantification so that you can focus on what you want to do with your plasmid without spending time and resources in preparative experiments.

We’re excited to begin offering this service to further contribute to our mission to “accelerate research and discovery.”

Here are the details.
